PRESENTATION OF THE WORK

This illustrated chronic, the fruit of more than five years of work, was drafted by Hartmann Schedel, and financed by Sebald Schreyer and S‚bastien Kammermaister.

In this exceptional work, Schedel recounts, year after year, the important events in history of humanity, from creation untill the end of the fifteenth century (publication of this work).
Various aspects are approachedÿ; the religion (the old and the new Testament), the history generally with the evocation of the critical events, the geography (in association with H. Munzer).

Fruit de plus de cinq années de travail, cette chronique universelle illustrée a été rédigée par Hartmann Schedel, et financée par Sebald Schreyer et Sébastien Kammermaister.

Dans cet ouvrage exceptionnel, Schedel relate, année après année, les évènements importants de l'histoire de l'humanité, depuis la Création jusqu'à la fin du XVe siècle (publication de l'ouvrage).
Différents aspects sont abordés; la religion (l'ancien et le nouveau testaments), l'histoire en général avec l'évocation des faits marquants, la géographie (en collaboration avec H. Munzer).

The work is richly illustrated by 645 woodcuts among which some are repeated, making a total of more than 1800 engravings. These represent biblical scenes, outstanding personalities, important events, biblical and dynastic family trees, maps, ...
Plans of numerous city views such as Nuremberg, Jerusalem, Constantinople, Venice, Rome, Florence, Rhodes, Toulouse, Nice, Cologne, Strasbourg, Prague, Cracow, most of which have a real topographic value.

This incunabulum is illustrated with numerous wood engravings.

The text enriched from big initials is completely heading in red.

L'ouvrage est richement illustré par 645 bois dont certains sont répétés, soit un total de plus de 1800 gravures. Celles-ci représentent des scènes bibliques, des personnalités marquantes, des évènements importants, des arbres généalogiques bibliques et dynastiques, des cartes, des plans ...
De nombreuses vues de villes telles que Nuremberg, Jérusalem, Constantinople, Venise, Rome, Florence, Rhodes, Toulouse, Nice, Cologne, Strasbourg, Prague, Cracovie, dont la plupart ont une réelle valeur topographique.

The incomplete copy include 306 leaves among wich 20 priliminaires leaves (not numbered) including the big xylographique title on full page and the table of contents, and 286 leaves of the book.

Missing leaves: I (1), XXI (21), CXLII (142), CCLIIII (254), CCLV (255), the three white leaves CCLVIIII (259) to CCLXI (261), CCLXII (262), CCXCVI (296) and following ones.

Leaves CCLXVII (267) à CCLXXI (271) are replaced by 5 leaves "De Sarmacia regione Europe".

The bookbinding is not vintage.
